31 Days Of Horror: Day 31

Trick R’ Treat
Dir: Michael Dougherty
Starring: Brian Cox, Anna Paquin,
and Dylan Baker

We made it. 31 days of horror, 31 days of pure joy for this horror fan. I’ve had a great time watching and writing this topic, and I hope those that are reading enjoyed it as well. It’s been a great month of October and we are going out with a bang. Trick R’ Treat could be the new holiday film for me. I purposely didn’t watch this film since last year just to enjoy it tonight. It’s so good!!! Even though we had only one trick or treater in the neighborhood, this film capped the night off well.

Anthologies are another favorite of mine, and this film could be the new best for me. Dougherty crafts such a tight film with clever interweaving of storylines and some surprisingly ingenious visuals. And Sam, the master of ceremonies in this film, is honestly the new icon for the youth of this horror generation. Ceremony and ritual are always important themes in film. Why do people do the things that they do? Why do we carve pumpkins? Why do we give candy out on All Hallows Eve? Though these questions might not be answered completely in this film, it utilizes them efficiently to craft a great story. It's amazing to believe that this film couldn’t find a distributor and waited in limbo for nearly a year before it became available, and it really didn’t even get a theatrical release, limited release is even pushing it. However, it’s an amazing film, with scares and frights around every unexpected corner. What more can I say? Make it a Halloween staple for yourselves.

Finally, I would like to thank those that are reading this blog. This all started as a passion for film and I urge those that have the same passion to explore what makes you happy. If you want to write about movies, start a blog and let me know so I can be your first follower. If you want to make movies, let me know so I can invite you to learn with me as I make that leap into the unnerving realm of filmmaking. Follow those passions and enjoy the journey. Thanks again for reading and please remember that the biggest compliment you could give me would be to share this with your friends. Happy Halloween.
