31 Days Of Horror: Day 9

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane
Dir: Jonathan Levine
Starring: Amber Heard and Whitney Able

This film has been done since 2006…yes, and still hasn’t been released in the U.S. yet!!! Again, just like Tucker and Dale, I’m confused, why shelve such a creative film? This could, more than likely, be the company mentality of wanting a film that will find the cross over appeal, and it doesn't have sullen vampires or stacked werewolves. What is more peculiar is this film has great star power, Amber Heard (Drive Angry), Whitney Able (Monsters), Micheal Welch (The Twilight Saga), and director Jonathan Levine, who has the fantastic film "50/50" in theaters right now. And still, the only place you can get this is from the U.K.

This film is an updated slasher flick with humor and great characters. There is a very “real” quality that shines throughout this film, the characters are identifiable and the plot is convoluted enough to keep the audience guessing. It’s hard trying to change the tried and true methods of the slasher genre, and Mandy Lane doesn’t, it just applies the proper attention to those familiar elements. The POV style is creative, the kills are brutal, and the best of all, it pays proper reverence to the classics. Hopefully a distributor will pick Mandy Lane up soon and more people can experience this great flick. Day 9 loving Mandy Lane complete.
